It's been announced today that Salman Rushdie author of the book Satanic verses is to receive a knighthood.Like most people round these parts it was the first time i had been exposed to the 'religion of peace's' unique way of dealing with criticism with the book burning (of the Satanic verses) spectacle by Muslims in Bradford City centre.
It also led to a 10 year fatwa from the former Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini.
It was also (although i didn't realise it at the time) one of the things that tipped me towards nationalist politics in the first place.
So thanks for that Salman your fatwa wasn't wasted!
